Brenta leather by Moore & Giles is elevated to a level that is nothing like anything we have seen. We love its softness coupled with a raised grain. Initially launched in a gorgeous “Walnut” color, which is a lovely red-toned medium brown. Spring 2021 brings a golden mid-tone brown “Cider” color as well, which we expect will be another winning sycamore color option. We have not yet produced pieces in Cider, as the color is so new, but stay tuned!

Brenta is the latest masterpiece by the fifth-generation Adelaide Tannery in Bassano del Grappa,  in northern Italy. Adelaide Tannery is in the foothills of the alps, this tannery produces the finest upholstery leathers in the world, tanned with waters from the Italian Alps,  displaying the true natural beauty of leather.

Brenta begins with high-quality German hides.  Layers of waxes and oils are applied to create a rich pull-up effect, and then an extensive milling process is used to produce Brenta’s signature soft hand and raised grain.

Like with any aniline leather, you will observe dye lot variation, as well as variation in color between the hides in a batch, and even within one hide. Brenta lovers will also see healed scars, barbed wire scratches, bug bites, and fat lines in the natural finish, revealing the character of the underlying animals.

Like any other aniline leather, Brenta will burnish and mark with use. A dog’s nails, even a fingernail, can leave a mark on the surface. These marks are not scratches, as they are only in the finish and can generally be rubbed out with the warmth of your finger, or heat from a hairdryer on a hot setting. Brenta is best used by customers who can embrace the patina that develops in the leather over time, and appreciate the natural character of the leather.

Brenta is a versatile leather that is well suited for contemporary or traditional pieces, and it is an outstanding selection for tufted pieces as its suppleness allows our upholsterers to create a great result.
