At COCOCO Home, our team has the expertise to make furniture that lasts for a lifetime. We love to experiment with design and materials. Most of all, the artistry of just making hand-made, heirloom-quality furniture, makes us tick. We take pride in what we do, from selecting a leather or fabric, cutting the material, sewing upholstery, or taking an order to ship. We strive to ensure satisfaction and excellence with every piece of furniture that goes out of our doors.
How we got Started
Here at COCOCO Home, we aim to make high-quality, handcrafted pieces of furniture that will stand the test of time. But before ordering a couch online was common, we knew that was a gaping hole in the retail industry.
Our company originated with an idea borne of necessity. COCOCO Home founders Steve & Danielle Sechrest had lost just about everything in the Great Recession in 2008, including their home and business, but they held fast to a sense of faith in themselves and the future. Danielle took a job working for a small furniture company to help make ends meet. When Steve met the company’s owner, he asked him if he could try selling his furniture online. The owner told him that was fine, but expressed his doubt that it would work. But Steve felt he had no choice but to try, so he came up with a name, created a website, and went to work: The Comfortable Couch Company was born. It was slow and hard at first, but people started to order, and by word of mouth and the magic of the internet, the company started to grow.
The original furniture manufacturer, unfortunately, went under, and Steve and Danielle brought in their friend, Gary Mangione, to help them start and run their own upholstery shop. Gary had no background in contemporary seating furniture, but confidence in his own abilities and a refusal to accept anything less than success.
Our shift into manufacturing freed our company to add new styles, which quickly expanded our possibilities. The addition of the Classic Chesterfield, and especially the groundbreaking “L” shaped leather sofa in that style, launched our company to new heights and we decided to shorten our name to COCOCO Home. Soon after, we added our first showroom in Cornelius, North Carolina. Then we added another in Atlanta. Commercial work started to flow in, and COCOCO pieces were showing up in the homes of some famous (and not-so-famous) folks across the country, and sometimes even in a movie (did you know one of our sofas is in Deadpool 2?).
We are humbled to acknowledge COCOCO is no longer a tiny company. We produce and ship as many as 100 contemporary seating furniture pieces a week out of our 30,000 square foot production facility here in the foothills of North Carolina. In 2019, we used more than 300,000 square feet of leather in the production of our heirloom-quality furniture, and have grown to be one of the top sellers of Moore & Giles’ leather. That same year we opened our third showroom in Nashville, Tennessee.
We are passionate about the COCOCO way – quality, handcrafted and American-made furniture in North Carolina, from our family to yours.
While many of our furniture styles will echo styles you may find at large corporate retailers like Restoration Hardware, the similarities end there. While RH has furniture companies from China, to the Mexican border areas, and even a few in North Carolina, all of our furniture is hand-crafted in our own plant here in NC. Our contemporary seating furniture is better simply because we make it out of superior materials. Our frames are heavier using thicker 100% American Oak rather than thinner Russian Birch. Our pocketed coil system is the best, most comfortable and durable spring system. We offer a combination of ultracel and memory foam cushions for our seats. Our pillows are filled with a down replacement that offers the same comfort but more resiliency and durability. Cheaper production quality and costs put more money in the pockets of these retail giants at the expense of their customers who get lesser quality in their furniture. Don’t let that happen to you.

We manufacture furniture for actual people, not for stores or corporations.
We’ll never be a volume dealer. We cling to the old-fashioned values that allow us to craft each piece of heirloom-quality furniture exclusively for its intended owner – you. In addition to our website, you can visit our showrooms – located in Cornelius, North Carolina, Atlanta, GA and Nashville, TN. We attract loyal customers from throughout the Carolinas and across the United States who want the kind of quality furniture North Carolinians have made for generations. Our reputation for friendly and dependable customer service is evident from the time you decide to place an order. You deal directly with the folks who are crafting your furniture. A guiding principle behind our contemporary seating furniture is our dedication to the best quality materials available. We use fine Italian leathers from Moore & Giles and Crest Leather. We make furniture with gorgeous and durable velvets from JB Martin and performance fabrics from Valdese Weavers all woven right here in the Carolinas. We use these quality materials to produce the very best furniture made in America that money can buy – at affordable, factory-direct pricing. How do we do it? We keep our overhead low and we keep our business focused and simple. We are customer driven. Almost every style we make, started with a customer coming to us with a picture and asking “Can you make me this?” That is why we offer the choice of today’s most popular styles in a selection of versatile pieces.
