Telluride leather is somewhat of a throwback, made in the same tannery in Italy that produces classic leathers such as Brompton and Berkshire. Telluride was cool before those leathers were a twinkle in Bernardo’s eye. Telluride is like an old leather steamer trunk that came out of someone’s attic and quickly appearing antiqued and broken-in, but you can still see the original beauty of the rich, dark leather.
As a waxy pull-up leather, Telluride leather has a pretty undertone that comes through as it distresses – and get ready because boy, does it distress! The waxy surface will have varying degrees of a matte finish or moderate sheen. It may have splotchy areas where the finish seems marred or missing. It may have dark spots that will become more evident as the leather wears in and the color burst emerges. The natural finish of Telluride leather will reveal the character of the underlying animal, including fat lines and healed scars.
One of our genius customers came up with the perfect analogy to explain Telluride. The picture on the left is my daughter and as you can see, she lives in New York and wears jeans with holes in them, on purpose. Even when it is cold, and she pays extra to get the jeans with the holes in them. That is how you should think about Telluride. This leather is not for you if you want pretty or pristine, but if you appreciate real and rustic, Telluride is like a well-worn pair of raw denim.Â
