As with so many of our styles, the Chesterfield collection began with a customer asking the question..

“Can you make me this?”

We started our company calling it The Comfortable Couch Company, which we later shortened to COCOCO (www.cococohome.com).  Had we known where we were heading we might have called it America’s Chesterfield Company.  Our American made Chesterfield style furniture has become a huge part of our story.  We are doing more with the Chesterfield style than perhaps any other furniture company anywhere.

As with so many styles, our Chesterfield Style began with a customer asking the question “Can you make me this?”.
We started off making our Classic Chesterfield Fabric Collection, which was available as a Chair, a Loveseat, and a Sofa.  The styling of these pieces was similar to the Restoration Hardware Kensington style.  We quickly learned that there were many people looking for a better alternative to the Kensington, which is made in China  (see video for comparison).  There was demand for chesterfields, but people were looking for the ability to personalize it to their needs.  We added more lengths, using increments of 5.5″ (one tuft) and now the Classic Chesterfield is available in 18 different lengths, from a 43″ chair all of the way up to a 145″ Chesterfield couch.

We started making our Classic Chesterfield in three depths (38″, 42″ and 46″) to accommodate Chesterfield lovers of all sizes and shapes.  The next step was sectionals, a move which was soon followed by Restoration Hardware.  Our Classic Chesterfield Sectional comes in 38″ or 42″ depths, as a Chaise Sectional or a Corner Sectional with radius or square corner wedges.

The Classic was such a hit we started looking at what else we could do with tufted furniture styles.  One of the first variants we created from the Classic Chesterfield was the COCOCOHome original Soho Chesterfield.  This style features a wider tuft pattern achieved by leaving off every other tuft, thus creating an 11″ tuft pattern.  It gives our Chesterfield a more contemporary vibe and a pillowy soft feel.  Because of the tuft pattern it is only available in the 42″ depth and in every other length.   The Soho Chesterfield furniture line also includes sectional options at select lengths.

Next in line was the creation of the Traditional Chesterfield.  Our customers had seen this look from British Chesterfield furniture companies such as Fleming & Howland, but wanted a more comfortable American-made Chesterfield.  The COCOCO Traditional Chesterfield comes in the same lengths and depths as the Classic Chesterfield but has a deeper bottom rail which allows for more buttons and a dramatic (masculine?)  look.  The Traditional Chesterfield can also be made as a sectional.

Our English Chesterfield style came next featuring wide splayed arms and a back that curves through the corners giving it a sexy feel.  This style comes in 11″ increments.  We have also made this as a stunning Chesterfield sectional (shown in in Revelation “Azure”).

One of the most recent additions to our COCOCO Chesterfield furniture styles is our signature Biltmore Chesterfield.  The Biltmore has a taller back and curved corners with tufting flowing uninterrupted through it, much like the English Chesterfield.  The arms are what make the Biltmore Chesterfield so unique.  We created a graceful downward sloping arm and scooped out the front of it, which gives the Biltmore its distinctive charm.  We’ve made this in every size, from chairs and sofas, all the way up to a 165″ banquet for a restaurant.  It is also available as a sectional with a radius corner wedge or as a chaise sectional (call for details 704.892.6680).

Our Lennox style provides a more contemporary take on the Chesterfield style.  We’ve taken the tradtional rolled arms and squared them off and made them more petite.  This style comes with the option of square or diamond tufting and is available in all the configurations of the Classic Chesterfield.

The COCOCO Lillington and Weddington styles are technically not even Chesterfield style furniture because one of the things that make a Chesterfield a Chesterfield is that the back and arms are all the same height.  The Lillington has a wonderful reverse camel back while the Weddington is level across the top of its back.  Both feature wide scrolled arms and either comes in a range lengths and two depths.  The Weddington can also be a sectional with or without a tufted seat.

I hope this gives you a broad look at the range of possibilities available in our Chesterfield pieces.  Whether looking for a chair, loveseat, sofa, or a sectional, we have more options in terms of lengths, depths, and fabric or leather finishes than any other Chesterfield furniture manufacturer in the world.  And best of all its made right here in North Carolina.
